since human beings have expressed their relationship with the animate earth we have used colours gathered from our immediate environment
peter ward’s research has explored the geology, social history and creative applications of earth pigments gathered in southwest England. he shares his work through paintings, photography, installations, workshops and presentations. he has led research into North Devon’s infamous Bideford Black pigment for the Burton Art Gallery & Museum, helped develop and deliver Soil Culture for the Centre for Contemporary Art & the Natural World, contributed to a number publications worldwide and exhibited is work locally and internationally
his work explores, expresses and enriches our innate connection to the earth
