TERI POWER

Teri Power is an artist in the midwest who makes pigments from foraged clays.  She finds the Midwest clay colors beautifully subtle. Her interest in finding local sources of color and fiber began because of her involvement in two groups. One is called "What We Need is Here" and the other "Project Art for Nature". Both are collaborations of people — both scientists and artists — who investigate how to combine their love of the natural world with promoting good stewardship through art.

These groups feed her interest in where color comes from and how the earth’s evolution created this amazing place. As humanity evolved these resources were investigated and applied. Much of this knowledge is undermined and lost now by industrialization and technological innovation. Working with these wild materials is a connection to the past with an eye to the future.
